Track the endangered mountain gorillas in Volcanoes national park and visit Iby’iwacu cultural village for a Rwandan cultural experience.
Visit Volcanoes national park is home to 10 habituated gorilla families. It’s considered the best to track gorillas due to the easy access from Kigali airport.
Visit iby’iwacu cultural village; interact with locals in their homes and watch their intor dance performances.
Explore Kigali if time permits, visit the Kigali genocide memorial.
On arrival, our guide will transfer to the hotel.
Day by Day itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at Kigali airport and transfer to volcanoes national park
Upon arrival at Kigali airport, our professional local guide will give you a warm greeting. A brief introduction of the tour will be given on you drive to Volcanoes national park (2 hour drive). After check in, you will have dinner at your lodge and overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and cultural tour
Wake up early for breakfast and transfer to Kinigi where you meet guides to brief and allocate you to one of the habituated gorilla families. Accompanied by the park guides and rangers into the forested volcanic slopes, you will track the gorillas for a once in a lifetime wildlife experience. The search for gorillas can take 30 minutes or over 5 hours before reaching the gorillas. It depends on the movement of gorillas. Once gorillas are found, visitors are given 1 hour to observe them and take photos. After that, you return back to the lodge for lunch. Take a community tour at Iby’iwacu cultural village in the afternoon and experience everyday lifestyle of local Rwandan people. There are various activities to take part including visiting king’s replica house, traditional healer, banana brewery. At the end, the locals will perform their intore dances while telling stories through the songs. Return back in the evening and dine at your hotel.
Day 3: City tour and departure
After breakfast, the guide will help you with the check-out procedure and transfer back to Kigali. You may visit the Kigali genocide memorial before you transfer to the airport for departure.
