Packing list for African safari

Africa safaris are one of the best adventure experiences in the world. Africa has diverse landscapes and a variety of flora and fauna. From the rolling hills down to the savannah plains through to the lowlands of the rivers and lakes, Africa has a lot in store for every adventure enthusiast. There are several attractions to look at when on an Africa safari and they include the big 5 lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos. Other animals include hyenas, warthogs, wildebeests, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, waterbucks, hippos, crocodiles, mongooses, cheetahs, elands, primates like the chimpanzees, the endangered and rare mountain gorillas, the eastern lowland gorillas and many others.

Other than the wildlife Africa has some of the best and rare landscapes and natural features like the River Nile longest river in the world, and the Murchison Falls the strongest waterfall in the world among many others. When planning an African safari, it is very important to have a packing list of essentials that will help you while on your adventure. This packing list for African safaris includes the following.

Clothing to Pack

  • Long-sleeved shirt is an important item to pack while going on an African. The long-sleeved shirt protects you from insect bites and thorny vegetation especially when doing physical activities like trekking mountain gorillas, tracking chimpanzees, or even nature-guided walks.
  • Khaki trousers or safari trousers. Khaki and safari trousers are very essential on a trip to Africa as they are hard and would handle specific weather conditions in Africa. These trousers also protect you from insect bites and thorns when moving through the savannah.
  • T-shirts are perfect for the hot sunny days on safari. Africa safaris are usually done during the dry seasons. This is the time in Africa when the sun is very hot and the environment is windy hence t-shirts are light offering a cool shade from the sun's rays.
  • Lightweight jacket or sweater. During the dry season when safaris in Africa are at their peak, the nighttime tends to be cold and windy. Because of this, packing a lightweight sweater will save you from the cold and also keep you in the comfort of not sweating.
  • Waterproof raincoat or heavy jacket. Africa safari can be done in any season from dry to wet season. However, the weather in Africa can tend to be unpredictable thus it is a more ideal to pack a waterproof raincoat or heavy jacket that will protect you from getting wet while doing activities like game drives, hikes, and trekking among others.

Energy giving snacks

  • Snacks rich in carbohydrates such as nuts. These snacks are good for the body as they keep it in shape and energized while doing activities like hikes, trekking, and many others.
  • Fruits are also very crucial while on an African safari. Fruits help to keep the body hydrated and provide it with the necessary vitamins. These nutrients equip the body with the ability to fight diseases acquired on the safari like cough or flu.
  • Snacks that have a high percentage of sugars in them such as chocolate, and candy cliffs among others. Sugars are essential for the body as they preserve the energy in the body thus keeping you going and energized for the safari.
  • Bread snacks. African safaris tend to be so tiresome and energy-draining especially for some activities like nature walks, trekking, birding, and more. Bread snacks like bugger and bread give the body energy and keep you satisfied for the Africa safari.
  • Energy drinks keep the body alert by preserving the energy in the body. However, energy drinks are not very healthy especially when consumed in large quantities and in a short time.

Essentials to park.

First aid box.

Health is always the priority when planning on any African safari. Africa has diverse landscapes with uneven terrain hence making accidents and injuries unpredictable. Therefore, a first aid box should be the first thing a traveler packs while preparing for an African safari. The first aid box usually consists of different simple items like paracetamol, a badge, a pair of garden gloves, an anti-biotic, and surgical blades among others. These injuries are usually sustained while doing hikes, trekking gorillas, and tracking chimpanzees, among others.

Safari gear

Safari gear usually involves jungle boots, outdoor gloves, flashlights, safari huts, and caps to mention but a few. Jungle boots for instance are very important when doing physical activities like nature walks, mountain gorilla trekking, and chimpanzee tracking. These boots have a rough surface that helps you navigate through the tough terrain of Africa. The safari huts and caps also help to protect the travelers from the hot African sun.

Reusable water bottle

As the slogan goes water is life, and water is essential for any traveler going to Africa for a safari adventure. Africa’s weather is very hot during the summer season and it is very important to stay hydrated while on a safari. Packing a reusable water bottle helps you to keep refilling when the water is done.
