Imagine a worthwhile and jaw-dropping encounter with the world’s most endangered primate species in their natural habitat. You will enjoy this incredible experience with the endangered mountain gorillas of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda on a 3 days Mgahinga gorilla trek from Kigali.

One can imagine, how is it possible to trek gorillas in Uganda from Rwanda’s capital Kigali? Yes, this is very much possible, and in this itinerary, we shall take you on a roller-coaster of events from encountering the mountain gorillas to experience the lifestyle of the forest keepers, the Batwa people in their communities.

Day by Day itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

As you make your way into the country through Kigali International Airport, our estimated professional guide driver will be waiting for you. He will usher you into the country and bring you the insight on how your trip will go through a short briefing.

Thereafter hit the road to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park on the other side of the border in Uganda. You will have a brief Kigali tour as you grab lunch and experience the culture and lifestyle of the natives. Later proceed with your journey to the park in Uganda and by evening arrive at your booked lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Batwa community tour

Upon waking at the aroma of delicious breakfast back at the lodge, you will be transferred to the park offices by our guide driver. Here, you will be briefed on the gorilla trekking adventure you are about to undertake. Rules and regulations will be recited, and also the expected code of conduct around the primates checked before the actual trek.

The park rangers at the offices will then group you with other visitors in a group of 8 people and assign a guide ranger. All this will be after checking and confirming your trekking permits and our required documentation. You will afterwards enter the jungles in the lead, your assigned guide ranger who will help you track the mountain gorillas down and have an experience with them.

After about 2-3 hours traversing the jungles of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, you will find the gentle giants. The trekking time will then start ticking and in an hour, you will be concluding with your experience with the mountain gorillas. While in their presence, ensure to take enough pictures and just leave in the moment, as such, always come once in a lifetime. Head back to the offices with your guide ranger and our guide driver, who will return you to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, prepare yourself for a time of edutainment with the Batwa community. A local guide of the Batwa will guide through this experience as you learn the basics and lifestyle of these people. Consider the forest keepers because of the history after they dwelled in the park for years until its establishment. You will be taken through the various skills of survival these people possess and be entertained through their traditional songs and dances. At dusk, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 3: Departure

The last day of your 3 days Mgahinga gorilla trek from Kigali will kick off with an early breakfast. You will check out of your lodge and hit the road to Kigali through the Cyanika border point. This journey will take you about 3-4 hours, and by noon you will be arriving in Kigali for lunch before proceeding to the airport for your departure flight back home.
